Get in Shape the Right Way

What’s In My Gym Bag – The Workout Essentials…

I always stress the importance of having a dedicated gym bag.  Something that holds all of my workout gear, so I am prepared for every workout, whenever the time comes.  Having a fully stocked and dedicated gym bag eliminates the excuse of “I can’t workout…  I forgot my clothes, shoes, etc…”

So, if you want to workout more frequently, recover quicker, and get rid of excuses holding you back, I’d recommend stocking your gym bag similarly…

  1. GoRuck 38L Gym BagWhile this bag may be a little pricey, it is worth every dime!  It’s big enough to fit all my gear and damn near indestructible!  I honestly love this bag.  It is big and roomy, made in the USA, and has just enough pockets, but not too many that I forget where my stuff is, but remains fairly minimalist…
  2. Reebok CrossFit Nano 4.0 ShoesThese have become my favorite workout shoe.  While I don’t do CrossFit right now, they are perfect for your average gym goer.  The low drop, firm sole, wide toe box, and rugged durability, perform amazing for squats, dead lifts, cleans, etc…  You won’t be disappointed!
  3. Reebok Training Board Short – They’re comfortable, wick moisture, and pretty durable.  They also roll up nice and small to decrease packing space…
  4. Under Armour Compression Shorts – I wear compression shorts under my normal workout shorts any time I’m doing lower body workouts, or cardio.  I also wear them long after the workout to aid in recovery.
  5. Any Dri Fit Shirt – I hate working out in normal cotton shirts that absorb all my sweat, get heavy, and won’t dry…  I always have a dri fit style shirt in my bag.
  6. Rehband Knee Support – I tweaked my knee last summer doing a CrossFit workout which involved heavy thrusters.  Ever since that time, I have used these knee supports to keep my knees warm, moist, and ready for the heaviest of squatting motions.  I love these!
  7. Rogue Fitness Leather Lifting Straps – Initially I had the Cotton Padded Lifting Straps from Amazon, but I prefer these unpadded leather straps instead.  I also have a thing for leather, so there’s that too…
  8. Rogue Fitness Ohio Lifting Belt – I use this belt for max lift days.  The attention to detail, craftsmanship, and the fact that it is made in Ohio is why I went with this lifting belt…  Believe me, this is a seriously thick and heavy duty weightlifting belt!  It’s worth the money!
  9. Rogue Fitness 4″ Nylon Lifting Belt – I use this belt for typical heavy-ish squat days and heavy-ish dead lift days.  I try not to use a belt most of the time, because there are benefits to NOT using one…
  10. Harbinger Red Line Wrist Wraps – I had a ganglion cyst removed years ago and now I have scar tissue built up in my right wrist.  I use these wrist wraps on heavy overhead press days, close grip bench press, and other lifts which task my wrist flexabilty.
  11. Athletic Tape – Because ripped calluses suck and sometimes you need to tape them up and get on with your workout…
  12. Rogue Fitness VooDoo Floss BandsBecause these also hurt so good!  KStar says VooDoo Floss should be a staple in the gym bag of every athlete looking to improve range, restore joint mechanics, or unglue matted down or previously injured tissue.
  13. Lacrosse Ball – Because it hurts so good!  Whenever I don’t have access to my Trigger Point Grid Foam Roller, I use this lacrosse ball.  Find your trigger point that is aching for whatever reason, roll around on this ball until you kneed the muscle enough to relax it.  The simple lacrosse ball works wonders for mobility in areas where you cannot foam roll, like your traps, behind your knees, etc…
  14. I also have swim shorts (for swim, hot tub, sauna) and a towel that I carry…
